#300ToLive in the News

6/21/2020

Yesterday, the #300ToLive campaign was in the news! Two disabled people in our organizing team, along with two others who have been independently campaigning to retain the increase, were interviewed. Read the article here.

“A lot of what I’m hearing from members in AUC and the Vancouver Queer Spoon Share is requests at the end of the month — ‘I’m struggling to make ends meet,’ and ‘Someone just lend me $10 so I can eat today.’ It’s heartbreaking.” - Vivian Ly

“That $5 for a box of freezer bags is something that usually breaks me. I have to put things back at the grocery store by the time we’re two weeks into the month. This time, the feeling was different. I didn’t have to panic over small things, several times a day. I’m raising a one-year-old and doing that in poverty is incredibly stressful. We need this extra $300 a month.” - Billie Rose

“We’re living in a real state of poverty right now and with this COVID, everything has gone up in price. (The supplement has) just helped out tremendously and we would like to keep it that way.” - Sonjia Grandahl

“We want to make it permanent because the rates have been suppressed for so long." - Brent Frain

Thank you everyone for the tremendous support so far for the #300ToLive campaign!

We have received over 260 responses to our survey—thank you for sharing your stories and sending us photos for our website and social media campaign. We have highlighted a few stories on our website and are continuing our efforts to put your responses together to present to the B.C. government.

Today is our official launch! 300 To Live now has a website where you can find more information about the campaign.

There are 6 actions you can take now from home:

1. Read, sign, and share our open letter to Premier Horgan and Minister Simpson

2. Phone and/or email the Premier, the Minister, and your MLA (phone script and email template here!)

3. Take the survey and submit comments to the Budget 2021 Consultation (deadline: Friday, June 26 at 5 pm)

4. Share our survey with others to fill out (we can keep responses anonymous!)

5. Host or join an event—supporting each other in participating in actions together

6. Share a photo with us or on social media on how the $300 helps you and your community. Remember to tag it #300ToLive!
